  • Once you’ve mastered the basic jump rope, you can try doing the exercise jumping one foot at a time. You should begin the first half of the session performing the basic jump rope. Then, for the second half, you would do the alternating foot variation. To do so, you should jump on one foot for one to two minutes, and then jump with the other foot for another one to two minutes. This sequence should be repeated throughout the remaining half of the session. After a couple sessions of doing this, you can then perform the exercise alternating between each foot with each swing of the rope.

This variation is a much more challenging variation that requires you to jump higher and swing the rope under your feet twice. However, similar to the basic jump rope and alternating foot variation, you must practice the exercise repeatedly two to three times a week. Again, once you’ve completed half of the session doing the basic jump rope, you would then spend the second half of it practicing the double under technique.

  • The bounce step and the alternate-foot step are two basic jump rope techniques that help you develop the proficiency you need in order to improve your fitness and sports performance. These techniques also improve your overall conditioning and create the muscle memory that is required for you to master the complex movements of other jump rope techniques.

The reverse variation is similar to the basic jump rope, except that it’s performed in reverse. So, you have to swing the rope in reverse each time you jump. To become better at this variation, you should spend half of your jump rope session performing it, similar to the other variation.
